Surgery

At Jackpot Veterinary Center, our small animal veterinarians always do their best to treat pets using non-invasive treatment methods and by preventing the need for surgery with wellness and preventative care. Whether the procedure in question is an elective surgery such as surgical sterilization, a wound repair, a foreign object removal, intended to correct a developmental abnormality, or meant to treat an illness, the benefits of surgery can still sometimes outweigh the risks. In these cases, we might recommend that your pet undergo a surgical procedure.

What to Expect When Your Pet Needs Surgery

We understand that having a pet undergo a surgical procedure can be a stressful event. We always do our best to answer any questions you might have while also ensuring you fully understand the risks and benefits of the procedure at hand.
Our surgical services including preoperative and postoperative care are designed to help ensure the performance of safe surgical treatment in addition to helping facilitate smooth, complication-free recoveries for all of our patients.

Preoperative Examination and Care

We take care to ensure each of our patients is healthy enough to undergo surgery under general anesthesia by performing a thorough preoperative physical examination and blood test. At this time, we also provide you with instructions for preparing your pet for surgery. This might include restricting food and water before the day of surgery and administering any necessary medications.

Day of Surgery

During your pet’s surgery, we use only high-quality medications and state-of-the-art patient monitoring equipment that enables us to keep a close eye on your pet’s condition and vitals throughout their operation. Monitoring includes ECG, oxygenation levels, carbon dioxide levels, blood pressure and doppler pulse rate and blood pressure. We also have an IV catheter in place for every surgical patient, this allows us to easily provide any necessary medications and IV fluids for hydration during their procedure.

Postoperative Care and Recovery

Depending on your pet’s procedure, they might be able to return home the same day or require a short hospital stay while recovering. We will provide you with thorough recovery care instructions that might include restricting activity, temporary dietary adjustments, medication administration, wound care, and follow-up examinations.
